"The Mind is it's own Prison"

Robert PowellThis quote comes to us from Robert Powell, a prolific writer on non dual reality including Zen, advaita, gnostic Christianity, Ramana Maharshi and Nisargadatta Maharaj.

Here are a few more:

  • I realize what I am: a psychological disturbance.
  • It is neither the flag or wind moving, but my mind.
  • The Ego is broken not in Victory, but in complete defeat.
  • Seeking for happiness causes unhappiness.

Isn't this series of quotes wonderful?

Universe Big Bang TheoryHow did the Universe come into Existence?

Direct experience must be the sole test of reality.

This being true, then, every presumption or conclusion should be subjected to the examination of our direct experience to validate it.

For instance, let's examine the presumption that the universe existed before our experience of it.  What evidence would there be of such a universe?

Hui Neng: Greg Goode on The Platform Sutra
Posted: 01/01/10 03:08 PM | by once chris | big bear

hui nengIn our last newsletter, we posted the following quote and the full text for Hui Neng's Platform Sutra:

“The day had come for [Hui Neng] to spread the Dharma, and he arrived at a monastery where the abbot, Master YinZong, was preaching the Parinirvana Sutra. Out in the courtyard, a flag was flapping in the wind, and two monks were arguing below. One said, "The wind is moving." The other said, "No, the flag is moving." They could not reach a conclusion. Hui Neng came forth and said, "Neither the wind nor the flag is moving. It is your minds that are moving." The whole assembly was startled.”

Greg Goode, heading the StillnessSpeaks Open Awareness Study Group, received a question regarding this post. In his answer, he gently explains this quote very methodically and clearly. It is a very important understanding. Click here to read Greg Goode explaining that "neither the wind nor flag is moving. It is your minds that are moving."

"You know, I've always had the sense that death is love."

This amazing comment floored Susan who shortly thereafter immortalized the comment in a poem. Click here to read Susan Kahn's poetic expression, "Death is Love."
