Tom Shadyac's Dark Night of the Soul

The name Tom Shadyac may not seem familiar to you but his films certainly will: most of Jim Carey's movies including Ace Ventura; Pet Detective, "Bruce Almighty", "Liar, Liar", Eddie Murphy's "Nutty Professor", and Robin Williams' "Patch Adams", all in all grossing more than a billiion and a half dollars around the world.
Although some might consider this body of work more entertainment pablum, his new film "I AM" narrates his own dark night of the soul experience, a "fall from grace - or perhaps - into grace" as The New Yorker Magazine put it.
We are pleased to share a trailer and release sharing Shadyac's tumble from a bicycle that led to post-concussive injury. The catastrophic event birthed a life- changing bounty: a deep inquiry into both his past and the world for the meaning of life. Jack Kerouac, famed American Beat generation author of On the Road and many other amazing books, wrote this to his ex-wife:
"I have lots of things to teach you now, in case we ever meet, concerning the message that was transmitted to me under a pine tree in North Carolina on a cold winter moonlit night.
It said that Nothing Ever Happened, so don’t worry. It’s all like a dream. Everything is ecstasy, inside."
Click here to read the rest of this letter Jack Kerouac wrote to his ex-wife, learn a bit about his life, and download a fantastic piece of his advaitic sage-like prose entitled, The Scripture of the Golden Eternity. For your enjoyment, there is also a great biographical film on Kerouac at the bottom of the entry. Enjoy!

Chuck Surface remembers the path from playing by ear, to Playing by Heart.
Forgive me, my schooled friends.
I make no excuses, and offer no apologies.
I'm too drunk, lazy, and stupid,
And can't lift myself up and study.

Awareness and the Brain

There is no contradiction between nonduality and neuroscience. Neuroscience measures a subtle object. This subtle object is a kind of sentience, a local reactivity associated with a biological organism. This sentience is an arising in the witnessing awareness that is your true nature, your direct experience, infinite sweetness and unconditional love.
