Atmananda Krishna Menon: Notes on Spiritual Discourses

atmananda krishna menon"By reducing objects into consciousness or happiness, you come only to the brink of experience. Reduce them further into the "I" principle; then,'it', the object, and 'you', the subject, both merge into experience itself. Thus, when you find that what you see is only yourself, the 'seeing' and 'objects' become mere empty words."

Shri Atmananda Krishna Menon

It is with great enthusiasm that Non-Duality Press and StillnessSpeaks announce the publishing of Nitya Tripta's "Notes on Spiritual Discourses of Shri Atmananda." Many of you have availed yourself of e-book pdf versions of the text over the years; but, the size of the document made it unwieldily and difficult to study. Making photocopies of the 1451 questions and answers along with Atmananda's "spiritual statements" made this sadhana a cumbersome study!

For years, we have submitted that Shri Atmananda Menon was the third titan of twentieth century India along with Nisargadatta Maharaj and Ramana Maharshi. In fact, the man credited with bringing Ramana Maharshi to the West, Paul Brunton, also spent time and wrote extensively on Atmananda. Frequently, Brunton sent people seeking a guru relationship directly to Menon.

In many ways, the discourses of Atmananda Menon are better suited to a Western audience than the teachings of other Indian Sages. This is for two reasons: first, Menon was a householder. Atmananda led a rigorous professional life while simultaneously pursuing his spiritual practice. He often asserted that such a dual track both "inside" and "outside" the world built a far more stable and final understanding.

Second, Menon had a keen knack in logically reducing the objective world into thought and then, demonstrating that thought itself was nothing other than awareness. For a Western audience, so heavily conditioned to believe in the independent reality of objects, this clear and concise approach can be quickly productive.

In spite of these skills, many are not familiar with Shri Atmananda.
