Hui Neng: Sudden Awakening and The Platform Sutra

Chan Buddhism is the Chinese name for Zen, the Japanese word a school of Mayayana Buddhism. which emphasized direct experience as opposed to words and revealed scriptures. It emphasizes experiential "prajna" or wisdom.
Chan is derived from Dyhana, a sanskrit term, pointing to it's origins in India.
Of the two schools of Zen, the Southern School, run by the Sixth Patriarch, Hui Neng, was referred to as the "sudden" school. The designation denoted the direct, spontaneous realization of Truth that Hui Neng experienced, the realization of the Absolute nature of Truth outside of time.
