Enjoying the Stillness of Robert Powell

Recently, my wife and I were invited to La Jolla to visit with Peter Dziuban, author of "Consciousness is All",  much discussed on this site (DVD here). The event was held at the home of another Nisargadatta Maharaj scholar and author, Dr. Robert Powell in La Jolla, California.

Dr Powell still resides with his lively wife, Gina, who offers a veritable cornucopia of delightful stories regarding their remarkable journey together.

It is unexplainable how Robert Powell's "emptiness" engulfs his surroundings. Call it shakti or simply perfume, it is difficult to be in a room without being drawn into his presence.

At 92 years young, Robert may be physically slower and quieter, but, his mind and spirit remain razor sharp.

Born in Amsterdam, Netherlands in 1918, Robert Powell completed his education at London University, where he took his doctoral degree in Chemistry. Prolific in his career as well in spiritual exploration, Powell's writings cover more than the life of Nisargadatta.  Examining the essence pointed at thru religion including  Christianity and Zen, Robert Powell shared his deep exploration into reality. His personal quest brought him to J. Krishnamurti and Ramana Maharshi. In 2005, he wrote a favorite of mine,  "The Real is Unknowable, The Knowable is Unreal.'
