“… this season arrives quietly … unnoticed at first …”
This season arrives quietly,
as a pause between gestures,
as a softening in the midst of habit,
unnoticed at first. It does not ask us to hurry.
It does not insist on belief,
or agreement, or even joy. What if, for a moment,
we let ourselves be exactly as we are —
neither improving nor retreating,
simply present?In this simple presence,
kindness is not something we perform.
It is already here,
like warmth returning to the hands
when we stop clenching them.If there is any giving in this season,
perhaps it begins this way:
by allowing attention to rest,
by letting the heart be unguarded,
by meeting this moment
without needing it to be different. That may already be enough.
Merry Christmas! …. and Happy Holidays!
