I don’t know where your light comes from
or where I end and you begin.   ~
Pir Elias Amidon

benediction, light, love

Benediction is from Munajat a book of forty prayers, by Pir Elias Amidon, originally inspired by the Munajat — whispered prayers, or intimate conversations with God — of the 12th Century Persian Sufi, Abdullah Ansari.

Munajat: Benediction

Your dawn comes with the color of a dove
like a benediction in the air,
waking the town, swinging windows open,
freeing my heart from its shadows.

benediction, light, sky

All my life, beloved, you have been patient,
pouring your light through me without my noticing.
Now all I can do is put my forehead on the floor,
like the sunlight bowing there.

benediction, dawn, branches

I don’t know where your light comes from
or where I end and you begin.
You make my heart into empty sky
and the light of your morning my home.
